September mid-month update

September 17, 2007

I really haven’t been doing much lately.

Seems like September is here then almost gone in flash. I can’t believe it’s already over half way through the month!

I’d say, probably the best thing that happened in September was visiting Chris’s parents in Rockford and spending time with Nikki. What can I say – she’s (even though technically not true) my puppy!

I love her! I mean, come on, who wouldn’t love her!

And I finished 2 pairs of socks since the last post. That Embossed Leaves socks were finished on August 31st, with only few minutes to spare til midnight. That was quite a .. well, crunch time! (okay, so I haven’t really used that expression since college, for those all nighters before exams). And the other one is kinda unmentionable. And now I have another pair of Pomatomus in the works.

Oh and I almost forgot… I finally met a fellow knitter in town! Last week, I got to meet Amy and her most adorable wee boy (and he’s like super smart too!). She was so fun and funny.. and she gave me this big bag full of yarny goodies which I have yet to take a picture of. (Yes, that was super amazingly sweet of her) Getting to meet her was amazing, and I guess I should thank Ravelry for that.

Moving on….

Socks and hair, not to be confused with sex and beer

August 28, 2007

Honestly, I haven’t been knitting much lately. Over the weekend, I did start on another pair of Embossed Leaves, and I’m wee over half way through. The goal is to finish it within next couple of days or so, and hopefully have enough time and sanity before we leave town for the weekend, come up with something to knit for the road.

For my next pair, I’m thinking a pair of Pomatomus. It’s not the speediest knit with all the insane ktbl1 p1 rib, but it’s easy and interesting enough to keep me sane and I can knit without having to stare at the pattern – which will come in handy in long car ride (or so I hope). Where we’re heading? To Rockford. Nowhere exotic. But it will be nice to get out of town for once.

Speaking of Pomatomi, that’s what I knit for Amanda for our Knittyboard Sock Swap.

Now for the totally unrelated and not so interesting side note – I got a haircut today. Once again, I was being a super procrastinator that I am, and took over a year and half to get my hair cut since the last time. And once again, I had to be bombarded with questions and comments (from people at the salon, both the stylists and everyone else) like “Oh my, are you really going to get it cut?”, “Are you going to cry?”, and many of “Are you sure?”… and my answer was “Yes, yes and yes, I want to get it cut. No, I won’t regret it. No this is not any life-altering experience.” Seriously, I have absolutely no sentimental attachment to my hair. Unlike most girls with long hair who usually have long hair all their lives, my long hair is product of me just not wanting to be active about finding a salon and stylist. I’m not anti-social. I just don’t like dealing with people. That, and actually having to make plans, etc. Blah blah blah, so anyway, here goes the pictures.

And… after:

I’m not sure how long exactly, but I did cut off the length in a braided ponytail, and it’s going out to Locks of Love. I was almost tempted to post the picture of it here, but .. honestly, it’s pretty creepy. The thought of that dead hair used to be attached to me….. eeks.

I told the stylist to do whatever she pleases. I told her the longest I will accept is shoulder length and she can cut it as short as she pleases, as long as it’s not a pixie cut. I thought she’d make it much shorter, but well.. it’s still nice for a change. I like it. (I’m thinking maybe she cut it more conservative length because she probably feared me turning all psycho on her – hahah). Well, next time when I get it cut again (it could be in 6 months, a year, two years, who knows), if whoever will be cutting my hair will be brave enough to get it cut any shorter ;)

For future reference, if there’s anyone who knows around Chambana well, any recommendations on where to go get me some fancy haircut? I don’t know – I’m nuts and I like going to new places oppose to finding a regular stylist. Yes, I’m nuts!

Again, stuff from last month…

August 2, 2007

I really need to break this habit of making something and posting it a month afterwards. But once again, here they are. I present you, stuff!

First of all, Another circular needle holder, made for Zyllah. And sort of matching stitch markers.

And a pair of socks for Carol. Yes, it’s Hedera again.

And, yes, I finished with my Sockapalooza socks. But no, I rather keep it under wraps until I send them out. Why? Because I’m just nuts like that. Also, as for Knittyboard sock swap, as of right now I’m about inch or so down on the second sock. (Hi Amanda!) And no, I will not discuss the further details on it either. Why? .. again, I’m that nuts.

Well, that was fun.

Socky socks

First things first: finished work.

That makes up for the socky sock pair #10 for the year. And yes, I had to make sure the stripes are matchy matchy, as usual. That’s probably why I tried to avoid using self striping yarn nowadays. It drives me nuts to match the stripes up, but if I don’t, unevenness drives me to the point of insanity. Not exactly a win-win type of situation. And as for something unusual: work in progress. I’ve just started on another pair from Favorite Socks – Waving Lace by Evelyn A. Clark. So far I’m enjoying the pattern. I love the subtle diagonals created by YO’s and k2t/ssk. Not to mention the stretchiness – a bit of comfort since I’m knitting for a friend of mine.

It looks super pink on the second picture, but it’s really super purple. I’m not sure how I feel about the color. I think I like it, but still undecided. Perhaps it’s because I’m not a generally a fan of purple.

And as for other random thought, things I’ve been obsessing over: playing FreeCell, eating goldfish colors and ice cream bars – especially almond and chocolate covered ones from Haagen Dazs. And also the fact that Bingo song has same melody as for the Old McDonald Had a Farm song. Chris and I have been sining the song, with both songs combined. “..old McDonald had a farm and Bingo was his name-o….” Because it’s funny? perhaps. But because at a point, we kinda forgot how the Bingo song started (we eventually had to google it).

What can I say, apparently, we’re not that bright.

Embossed Leaves socks

Socky sock #8 for 2007: Embossed Leaves

IMG_1818

Pattern calls for size US 2 needles but I used US 1.5 instead (2.5mm). Also the cuffs, heels, and toes are changed to my usual likings. The intended recipient for the sock has smaller feet than mine, it fits me pretty snug, so I think it’s all good to go.

Seriously, this is the first time I’ve knitted a pair by doing one sock at a time. That is, of course, not counting the horribly failed Jaywalker I attempted in early last year, and couple of chunky socks done in worsted weight. Thankfully the lace pattern was easy and interesting enough (not to mention easy to memorize) to avoid second sock syndrome! Woo hoo!

I think the pattern would’ve looked nicer in more solid yarn – to show off the delicate lace detail, but I kinda don’t mind it the way it is now. Especially for being “purple”, I kinda came to like the color. It’s hard to believe… me? Liking purple? That’s bit insane.

I’d definitely make it again, definitely a pair for myself.
