What a piece of toast…

January 30, 2008

I’d say today was pretty satisfactory – despite the lack of accomplishments. But then again, we all need one of those days – you know, just lazy and do absolutely nothing kind of day without feeling super guilty about it.

Okay, so I did manage to finish a pair of sock that’s been sitting on back burner since fall: I present you, crazy salmon and lime Dublin Bay socks.

It’s made with J-Knits Superwash-Me yarn in AC-143. Yes, it is super neony.

And I strolled myself over to Needleworks, with intention of buying a skein of worsted wool for a hat. While there, I was very tempted to buy more sock yarns – they had Kureyon sock, Dreams In Color Smooshy, Araucania Ranco solids and all these insane amount of cool sock yarns and I resisted. I resisted and only bought a skein of 220 which was what I was there for to begin with. I know. I was being good.

And I headed home, and soon after I heard this loud knock at the door – and it was the mailman. He handed me this gigantic blue padded envelope, and all this was inside!

All these are from Ariel for my birthday! I was thinking about waiting couple more days to open it, but well, I gave in (okay, without a second thought) and opened it (right away). Between her and I, now we have 4 (phantom) matching pairs of socks. Yes, now we really have to work on them.

… and that toast-shaped pin cushion is hillarious! I love it! I mean, come on, who wouldn’t love a piece of toast?!

Thank you Ariel!

No accomplishments, just plans

January 27, 2008

You know, I still haven’t been knitting much lately. Instead, I’ve been playing Super Paper Mario which kinda kept me amused, until I realized how much to read in this stupid game (I guess it’s semi RPG-like) and it started to annoy me. I still have few more stages to beat until the actual end of the game, that is, if I plan on finishing it. I actually haven’t played it for past couple of days so we’ll see.

On the other hand, I did come up with few vague knitting ideas and plans for this year. I know it seems a bit late for these le grande plans since January is almost over, but here it goes.

One, I have decided to make a sweater for Chris’s mom for upcoming Christmas. You see, I never have to worry about sweater curse because Chris won’t wear sweaters. Okay, the exception being those thin machine knit kinds. But I know his mom would wear sweaters and would actually take good care of it – which opens up possibilities in terms of choice of yarn. I don’t have to restrict solely to machine washables. Two top contender was this one from garnstudio, and slipped hours (and i already bought it from etsy). I’m leaning toward slipped hours, and I also would like to make one for myself as well.

Next in business, I have decided to make more garments (by which I mean, sweaters) this year. Will I succeed? That’s a good question.

And.. okay, maybe I wasn’t completely honest when I said I haven’t been knitting. I did manage to finish a hat.

It’s just that I’m not sure how much I like the crown decrease. It’s just a mock up so we’ll see if I can live with it, or if I end up butchering it and start all over. I just wanted to make a hat with braided cables and earflaps and that’s what I came up with.

Bleh, I don’t know, I’m cold and kinda hungry. Time to raid the fridge, I suppose.

Blah blah blah and humpin’ dinos

January 12, 2008

I haven’t really been doing much lately. The New Year’s Eve was kinda fun-ish. I got some nudie hats and watched one of the new years countdown thing (previously recorded, because it’s all in New York) for like 5 minutes, and watched South Park movie and Futurama with Chris, Dave, and Erik. Yes, it came and went. Hooray.. ?

As for my knitting, I really haven’t been doing much since I was done with the blanket for Christmas. I’ve been like blehhhhhh. Though one (not-so) exciting news – I wrote up a pattern for a hat! It’s the hat that I meant to write up the pattern for in November, then I decided to knit that blanket, and it’s been on back burner until now. It’s pretty much finished, I just need to take some pictures and put it altogether. But I’m not going to post it immediately. It will be a birthday treat. Who’s birthday, you may ask. It’s my birthday, silly! Yes, on January 31st, there will be a free pattern posted right here! I know this isn’t the site with high traffic, but well, I’d love to see if at least one other person other than me making the hat – that would be so fabulous!

Speaking of birthday thing, I really wanted to buy a new sewing machine but I don’t think I’d be (financially) ready for making a relatively big purchase by my birthday. Though, now I know exactly I want, so I have a goal to save up for, which is kinda exciting too. But I did buy something semi-extravagant for myself the other day. It’s blue, it’s cute, and it’s all mine now!

It looks more black in the picture, but it’s really navy!

Oh and .. tonight I invited some people over for food. It’s nothing exciting, but I have to share my fun-tastic silverware setting.

Yes, those wee dino figurines are humping the plastic silverware. It’s totally childish but it’s totally awesome! 🙂 That’s all. Now time to go crash….

It’s really time for bed

December 24, 2007

It’s like 3:30 in the morning, and I’m finally getting ready for bed. I pretty much procrastinated all day and didn’t exactly start wrapping gifts until around midnight but the important thing is, it’s all done now.

IMG_2390

Amongst those boxes are my two finished knitted gifts: a blanket for Bruce, and a scarf for Grandma W.

Everything is finished, wrapped, and ready to hit the road tomorrow (er, today). Hooray!

Merry Christmas everybody!

This is how I went the wrong way and got back on track

December 5, 2007

I thought I’d share a tale of triumph.

So, the blanket I’ve been working on for past couple of weeks, I’ve been trying very hard to stay on track. Little by little, I’ve been working on it everyday and the progress was slow by steady. I was pretty content with the progress….

Then I discovered. One itty bitty cable, crossed wrong way, about (wee less than) 100 rows down.

IMG_2355  IMG_2356

I was pretty ticked off. If it was only few rows down, I was going to just unravel and redo them, but it was way too far down for me to undo past couple of days worth of work. So I decided to maybe ignore and leave it as a “design feature”. I even showed it to Chris, and he and I agreed that no one probably would notice. But more and more I thought about it more upset I got. I basically sat there, just debating on what to do.

And at a point, I decided to be brave and unravel just that section, and rework it.

IMG_2357  IMG_2358

And with patience I don’t have, I managed to fix it. And now we’re finally back on track.

IMG_2360

Oh yes I did.

Veni, vidi, vici, motherfuckers*.

(*ps – ok, that was super corny)
