Guess who’s back

July 10, 2009

.. guess who’s back on knitting train? ME!

It’s true. I just picked up my needles again this week (or something). I will say, it’s a bit difficult thing to get back to the mode, but once I did, it wasn’t so horrible. :)

The tanktop that I’ve been working on (what seems to be) forever is on right track. I’m almost done.. minus the button bands.

Yes, I even finished sewing down the hem.. that was quite a bit of work (especially with a kitty cat who loves strings). For now, I do have to abandon the project temporarily (once again) until I find the buttons. I think it’s probably easier to find the buttons first then try to make button holes accordingly than the other way around. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

And I have started on a pair of Polly Jean. One may ask, why are you knitting your own pattern again? I’d say, to fulfill my vanity of course. Eh, so maybe I’m a bit conceited. Who cares.

And I fear that I’m now turning into a crazy cat lady. I can’t help it. Lately about the only pictures I’ve ever taken are of Cocoa. I’m totally smitten by her. Can’t help it. But look, how could you not love her?

.. speaking of meow meow, do cats usually pick their “favorite” humans? The reason why I ask, is because Cocoa acts differently toward me than to Chris. Even though she enjoys playing with him (and string) and don’t mind getting pet from him, she wouldn’t go plop down on his lap like she would do to me, or giving “bath”. (So yes, apparently, according to the cat, I’m stinky?)

Now for non-kitty (or my vanity) related news, I would like to congratulate Shannon Okey and her friend Arabella Proffer for opening their brand new studio. Their launch party is tomorrow. Please check out Shannon’s website for more information. Congrats again!

.. and I still like my lap kitty :P

It’s Kitty Cat Day!

April 19, 2009

Today is Kitty Cat Day! Chris’s sister’s cat will be staying with us for next couple of weeks, and she should be here any moment now, so this will be short and sweet.

First affair, I did manage to finish those two remain pairs of socks before end of March. Go me!

On the left, is Twisted Flower by Cookie A: Dream In Color Smooshy in Wisterious, size 1.5 (2.5mm) needles. And of course, one of the twin socks with Ariel. On the right is heavily modified version of Gentleman’s Fancy Socks from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. Again, with size 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles, in Universal Yarns Pace Step in some random bluey color. The most obvious modification being is different gauge than the pattern calls for (to accommodate the needle size), and I also carried the stitch motif down to the heel flap instead of stockinette as the pattern calls for. These socks were for Ana.

Next in agenda: a tank top. I named it “Not Picovoli”. Why? Because I intended to make Picovoli when I originally received the yarn from Ariel. Then after a bit of thinking, I decided I’m going to go for a different route. Here’s a sneak peak of the details.

Yes, I did hemmed details for the armhole and neckline. Yes, it was a lot of grafting than I can handle.

Anyway, it’s coming along, like it or not. I have more progress pictures on flickr and on Ravelry if anyone’s interested – it shouldn’t be too difficult to find me on either sites, really. More details on the project and my thoughts or whatever shall be discussed in later post(s). For now, I’m going back to anxiously waiting for our furry house guest to arrive. It’s all good.

No accomplishments, just plans

January 27, 2008

You know, I still haven’t been knitting much lately. Instead, I’ve been playing Super Paper Mario which kinda kept me amused, until I realized how much to read in this stupid game (I guess it’s semi RPG-like) and it started to annoy me. I still have few more stages to beat until the actual end of the game, that is, if I plan on finishing it. I actually haven’t played it for past couple of days so we’ll see.

On the other hand, I did come up with few vague knitting ideas and plans for this year. I know it seems a bit late for these le grande plans since January is almost over, but here it goes.

One, I have decided to make a sweater for Chris’s mom for upcoming Christmas. You see, I never have to worry about sweater curse because Chris won’t wear sweaters. Okay, the exception being those thin machine knit kinds. But I know his mom would wear sweaters and would actually take good care of it – which opens up possibilities in terms of choice of yarn. I don’t have to restrict solely to machine washables. Two top contender was this one from garnstudio, and slipped hours (and i already bought it from etsy). I’m leaning toward slipped hours, and I also would like to make one for myself as well.

Next in business, I have decided to make more garments (by which I mean, sweaters) this year. Will I succeed? That’s a good question.

And.. okay, maybe I wasn’t completely honest when I said I haven’t been knitting. I did manage to finish a hat.

It’s just that I’m not sure how much I like the crown decrease. It’s just a mock up so we’ll see if I can live with it, or if I end up butchering it and start all over. I just wanted to make a hat with braided cables and earflaps and that’s what I came up with.

Bleh, I don’t know, I’m cold and kinda hungry. Time to raid the fridge, I suppose.

May stuff

May 30, 2007

Honestly, I’ve been slacking off with knitting lately – I mean throughout entire April and May. I’ve been distracting myself away from knitting with other things, like, I even fixed my sewing machine finally! I haven’t really sewn anything since I got it fixed, but I did manage to make a pair of pj pants for one of my coworkers (note: I did NOT pick out the pattern or size, or fabric – honestly, if it was up to me, I wouldn’t have chosen those insane novelty prints, or scary tapered legs, and I would’ve definitely made something much smaller – she wanted larger size and now it probably fits her like a tent). I think my next goal for sewing is to make a purse, something I can make without having to go out and buy a pattern for. I have “vision” in my head*, I think it will work out, but we’ll see once I actually get it started.

Oh and I’ve also been playing hours of mindless solitaire and freecell and whathaveyou’s, you know, one of those dumb (yet smarter than you!) card games that comes with Windows. I even went out and bought a book, thinking, hey there’s something I else I can do instead of knitting! (FYUI**, it’s the new book by Chuck Palahniuk) Heck, I think I spent more time staring at blank than I spent time knitting past few weeks.

But, I did manage to finish at least couple of things.

First, that stashbuster sweater. This took way too long, a lot longer than it should have taken. Thank you lack of motivation. But alas, it’s done and done.

And of course, a pair of socks. Well, one and halfish pair. I just started on another pair yesterday, with 3mm needles and sport weight yarn, plain stockinette. I think I can finish before the month is over, but with this much distraction probably not.

It’s Hedera from Spring 06 issue of Knitty. It was a fun knit, regardless of my lack of motivation. It’s definitely one of those I’d love to knit again.

In June, I’m hoping to get started on Rusted Root. And hopefully I get my motivation back.

(Here comes the fun and fancy footnote thingy)

*So, I have this anal retentive side of me where I have to make sure I can see it in my head and make sure it actually works in my head before I start on anything. And I don’t just mean knitting. Anything that involves some sort of construction, I have to make sure I plan every detail out inside my head and it has to just work. Until that happens, I don’t start on anything. I have to have this “vision” – some sort of pseudo epiphany moment before I get things started. You know, like, bright light shining over with this angelic (or psychotic) harmonious noise?

**FYUI – acronym for For Your Useless Information. It’s like FYI, but useless.

Yeay, New Year’s day!

January 1, 2007

So, last night was somewhat eventful.

Dave came over for the night – even though it wasn’t like an elaborate party or anything but it was nice to have people to spend the new year’s with. I think this was the first time in past few years that I wasn’t alone on New Year’s eve (Chris used to work 3rd shift). I even got us all prepared for the new year countdown. I got us some noise makers and.. nudie hats! (for those of you who have no idea what a nudie hat is, it’s one of those cellophane new year’s hat with nudie pictures on top of the hat)

We played some poker (and sadly, I didn’t win, dammit), watched some dumb movies and stuff, and drank and drank. Well, I wasn’t feeling the best earlier in the day so I really drink all that much. Whilst the boys had endless supplies of mixed drinks all night long, I really only drank a sip of vodka like once every hour – we had to toast once or so each hour, I couldn’t be the party pooper!

At the end, Dave passed out front of the fireplace so we called it a night about at 5 AM, and slept pretty much all day long. Yes, what an eventful day it has been today.

Though, I did finish that bigass button hat that I started couple of days ago. I mean, last year.
